Two Million Cheats Blighting Nintendo Wi-Fi!
We jest! DS online milestone reached.
Posted 29 Aug 2006

Nintendo of America's George Harrison, a man we can only assume threw his toys out of the pram recently after playing second fiddle to generic lifestyle marketing guru Reggie Fils-Aime, has announced that the glorious DS online service has reached a phat two million users.
The Wi-Fi service, recently confirmed as free for all Wii adopters too (albeit for basic gaming - Premium content will be purchased) has proven a smash hit amongst DS users and Nintendo's roll-out of hotspot support and high-profile agreements with major retail outlets ensured that it is possible to play Mario Kart online anywhere within the bounds of civilisation.
We joke about the fact Harrison makes another high-profile comment, as we had been hearing the Nintendo stalwart felt somewhat overshadowed by Reggie 'One Speech, No Tailor' Fils-Aime. Remember, this is the second big news to come from Harrison of late and follows recent Zelda revelations.
As for cheating, we have to date - just like Nintendo's online service - managed to walk the difficult line separating security and interactivity. Although problems have cropped up in certain games - snaking in Mario Kart, unusual speed amongst Japanese users of Tetris, the ability to buy bells and golden objects in Animal Crossing - Nintendo has done a brilliant job (especially for an online n00b with the world's l337 picking at every possible weak spot) of keeping problems at bay.

Cheating is such a problem on Metroid: Hunters that it's basically unplayable now. I'm not even talking unsportsman-like tactics like snaking either, I'm talking full-on exploits and glitch abuse. I hope Nintendo pay more attention to repairing or preventing such abuses for the Wii or its online aspects will be disasterous.

'metroid prime: cheaters'
yeah there are people who do that crap, like on the hall of combat arena - its possible when playing as the space pirate bounty hunter who can split in half, to plant the sentry gun half of yourself basically in the wall, shielded from gunfire and able to hit you when youre in most places
this is probably possible on plenty of maps actually, and its the most abysmal display of sportsmanship ive seen so far, im sure there are worse examples..

Such cheating is a shame, perhaps some users are using Datel cheat carts or something.
I'd like to see a mark up of what games were most popular for online play globally.

I haven't used my DS hunting for wifi spots on the move though but its a nice option to have.
Two million. Let's hope that continues to grow.
