Capcom Japan has released the first details on its Resident Evil title for Wii, already one of the hottest titles in development for the Nintendo home machine about to be unleashed on the world.
Capcom's ill-fated (and to this day denied) merger with the Kyoto giant built some wonderful gaming bridges, with Resident Evil 4 for GameCube standing out as one of the titles of the last generation.
And it is unlikely Resident Evil fans will be disappointed with what Capcom has planned for the Wii, with a truly sublime series retrospective being planned, taking scenario, setting and gameplay elements from Evils One, Two, Three and Four.
Resident Evil, as yet without a title leaving fans unsure if this is the true fifth game or simply a Wii sampler of past delights, is split into four chapters with various characters and settings from the series:
Chapter 1: RE1 Mansion - Jill and Chris
Chapter 2: RE2 Raccoon Police Department - Claire and Leon
Chapter 3: RE3 Raccoon City - Jill and Carlos
Chapter 4: RE4 Village - Leon and Ada
Further characters will also come into play in various subplots (in what is promised to be a very open-ended and massive title) including Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker, tantalising glimpses of what to RE fans will be the most exciting game in the series ever.
Slim gameplay details have been released to date, but we can already offer a couple more goodies. Each character will be able to dual-wield, packing two weapons at the same time. Plus, the preferred over-shoulder viewpoint and controls are to remain, hopefully meaning the end of the 'tank' controls that some feel plagued the series for far too long.
The final teaser we have for you is that the whole game will be presented in in-game cutscenes as was the case with Resident Evil 4, a feature that sounds entirely normal until you remember the atmospheric and technically-stunning brilliance Capcom captured in the last game.
We'll bring you further, meatier details, as they come in.
