Sony has also unveiled the memory card reader which allows gamers to copy PlayStation 2 save files over to PS3 and will set eager Japanese consumers back 1,500 yen ($13/£7/€10).
Last up is the Blu-ray Remote Controller (pictured right) which you are going to need if you are buying into Sony’s Blu-ray dream future, and which will arrive a month after launch, priced 3,600 yen (US $31/£16/€24).

Nice name but I'm still not convince be the controller. I'm sur e it'd be nice for Super Monkey Ball, but litte else. I hope Sony prove me wrong because I do want a PS3.
Wasn't their an old controller called the Air Pad that done this similar sort of thing on PS2 or PS1?

wait... so, you have to buy a remote to play BLU-RAY? OR are you just implyign that it's a must have sort of item if you intend to use the PS3 for vid?
Would be damned funny if sony forced peopel to by an extra remote to play vid, like the xbox180 did.

Seriously....
So if you have to have the remote in order to watch blu-ray then you cant even use the ps3 as a blu-ray player for a month after release. i guess that means you can watch your first blu-ray movie the week of christmas.
So much for getting blu-ray play back for free with the console.

I doubt you would only be able to play Blu Ray discs using the remote, you could probably play them using the controller, like you can play DVDs using the dual shock controller.

Something tells me that the remote will be required to watch blu-ray movies. Reason being, why would one want to buy a wireless remote dedicated to only video watching, when you have a controller that in essence, does exactly the same thing. Plus you can play games with a controller, aside from yu-gi oh or something, a remote is useless for gaming...

OMG roflz roflz!
Sony, the 80's called. They wanted to laugh at your 70's throw-back controller!
Kudos to the other poster that spotted this! Everyone thinks it's 80's-tastic. RIDCULE-ous

I recall the sony fanboys ragging xbox owners because you had to buy a remote to use the DVD function....hmmm how the tables have turned. Since blue ray is the next betamax maybe the remote should be wired.

Clever to post a comment knocking "fanboy" reaction, that goes on to- surprise surprise- come over all fanboy from the other direction. REAL clever that. Wipe the drool from your keyboard before you fry your PC.
Let's remind ourselves of the PS2's DVD remote. It was an EXTRA that increased functionality of the PS2's DVD system, NOT an essential that was necessary in order to use DVDs in the first place. For all we know, PS3's remote could well be exactly the same- ie, you can still gave full Blue-ray playback functions, but the remote will enhance the capabilities.
"Blue-ray" is the next Betamax? Betamax was a far superior system to VHS, but never had an all-powerful console attached. Perhaps this time around, justice will be done.
I am sooooo bored of reading biased posts from uninformed idiots these days.

For refference i don't actually think the DVD remote is necesary for BR playback, i was just pointing out hat the phrasing might be miss leading.
That twould be damned ironic.
