Wario Ware: Smooth Moves Slips Till Spring
SPOnG suspicion confirmed as Wario slips from our grasp. Bah!
Posted 19 Oct 2006

Nintendo has finally confirmed that our beloved WarioWare: Smooth Moves will be out in the US on January 15th and will follow ‘sometime shortly after’ in Europe. Which means, as we originally predicated, spring 2007. Bah!
This confirms SPOnG’s report back in September from the European Wii press event at London’s ExCel. At the event Nintendo’s David Yarnton told us (or rather we brilliantly extrapolate from what he didn't tell us), not to expect the game until well into 2007.
As we told you back then, “Unfortunately Yarnton could not confirm a date for WarioWare: Smooth Moves for us, so we can only presume that we are going to have to wait until next spring for that one. Of course, we'll bring you confirmation on the date as soon as we get it.”
Aside from buying the title on Japanese import for a small fortune from CEX, it looks like we’ll have to make do with some of the other Wii launch titles until next March.
So, it’s lucky we’ll have Zelda: Twilight Princess and all the other launch gems to keep us smiling until then. We oh-so professionally listed these for you in SPOnG news last week.
You can read SPOnG’s full WarioWare:Smooth Moves preview from earlier this year, which tells you all you need to know about why Smooth Moves is an essential Wii title.

Hmmm, there'll be a bit of Christmas cheer gone by the way-side. Would have been great to play over the holidays, what with the whole family sitting around the room. In fact, it's the only time of year it gets to happen, and there'll be no Wario. Rollix.

I think that every time this happens, Nintendo is slowly losing its grip on the potential success it could have had, and hence wasting its opportunity/talent.
They talked about having a lot of their best franchises at launch, and it won't be Mario or Wario, so what is left? Metroid and Zelda (which was a port of a Gamecube game). It's a disappointment, basically.
If they had Zelda and Mario (at launch), that would have been ideal, but they haven't. It's not even that I don't believe their games will be good, but I'm just losing faith in them more and more.
I don't think they should have bundled Wii Sports either, because, although I'm sure it's a good game, I would have chosen to buy a different game instead.
Thus, I don't plan on buying a Wii at launch anymore, and I'm considering just getting Zelda on the Gamecube instead - and then waiting until either Mario is released or a price cut.
Just because the other companies might be slacking a bit doesn't mean Nintendo has to as well. They are not "competing", but even if they are (which they are really), they should take the opportunity, as opposed to letting it go.
