World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade – Launch Details

‘But how can you kill that which has no life?’

World of Warcraft’s first major upgrade - World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade launches across Europe at midnight on Monday.

The main UK event is at, yep you guessed it, HMV Oxford Street where SPOnG will be on hand to snap the inevitable horde of cosplay fans dressed as dwarves and elves. With more than eight-million paying subscribers to date according to Vivendis’ most recent communication, that could turn out to be a lot of elves – turn up early, get a free doll, erm, action figure.

We’ll also be chatting to World of Warcraft game designer Jon LeCraft so let us know if there’s any burning questions or WoW issues you want cleared up once and for all.

Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard had the following to say on reaching the eight million subscribers mark:

“We’re ecstatic that the World of Warcraft community has continued to grow steadily since we launched the game…This milestone wouldn’t have been possible for us to achieve without the incredible support of our players. With the release of our expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, coming next week, we’re looking forward to welcoming more players to Azeroth and offering even more quality content for our community to enjoy.”

And here’s something to tide you over: SPOnG’s favourite thing about the insanely popular online fantasy game last year was by far the South Park parody of the game – including our favourite quote: “But how can you kill that which has no life?”

If, for some weird reason, you don't know what we are talking about or you haven’t yet seen it, you can grab a look at the bottom of this story. It’s comedy gold. To hear Cartman, Kenny and co. use the words ‘noob’ and ‘pwned’ as well as cartoon versions of Blizzard execs marvelling that "they must have no lives at all" is a joy.
