New StarCraft by 2008?
Blizzard working on a true update...
Posted 16 Jan 2007

As the embers die down in London today following the impressively massive launch event for World of Warcraft expansion Burning Crusade, we find great joy in picking over comments made by one Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard Entertainment.
Addressing the masses, Bassat stated, "I'm a StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade - and we launched StarCraft in 1998 - before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series," hinting that we may well be seeing a true StarCraft sequel in the next 23 and a half months.
StarCraft stands as the game that both launched Blizzard as a global development force and triggered the mainstream obsession with the unique style of role-playing and strategy, with epic sales and uptake of World of Warcraft concreting the studio's hold on the genre as it has evolved.
Of course, we'll not get too excited until we see an official announcement from Blizzard, though the fact that the studio is talking publicly about the project will surely be enough to trigger a wave of excitement through PC gaming circles.
As ever, we'll keep an ear to the ground and update you as soon as we hear more.

After Starcraft Ghost who knows where its gonna go next? Blizzard really have to make that step from the PC to consoles too though. I can see the likes of EA and Bungie selling more copies of Halo Wars and C&C3, because they are spreading their games well like this.
Until Blizzard do so, WOW will miss out on loads of sales with Starcraft possibly following suit. I know the koreans will by it no matter what I say though.

Miss out on sales? I can't imagine how much cash they are dragging in with over 8 million people paying a monthly fee. I honestly don't see Blizzard being in a situation where they need to sell an increased amount of games to remain profitable.
I'd like to see another Star Craft game, but I've come to terms with things. We the Star Craft gamer have been long forgotten...

Maybe not today. But companies don't last by failing to consider the future...
Unless Blizzard are happy to cash out and retire (which Vivendi might not be so happy about) when WoW on PC begins its inevitable downward path, then they will need to look at console versions.

Hell yeah about time for a nice starcraft update (hell i would take another standalone war craft as well).
Why in the hell does blizzard need to focus anything on consoles. I mean they have sold 8 million copy's of world of warcraft. I know the game was recently dropped to 19.99 but its been out since 04 and only recently recieved this price drop. Either way 8 millions copies is about as good as sells as you could ever dream of, especially when they are computer sales. I mean since you cant really pirate it, and folks pay 14 a month to play...they are simply printing money and have no need to dive into console development. So far their only console port got canned.
