Laurent Fischer, European Marketing Director said:
"Nintendo DS topped the six million mark in September and has continued to go from strength to strength with thousands of new people being introduced to gaming through the Nintendo DS. Its appeal to both gamers and non-gamers means it has expanded the gaming population significantly. This landmark figure of 10 million Nintendo DS gamers cements the console's position as undisputed leader of the handheld market, bringing gaming to a whole new audience - something that was unimaginable a few years ago!
Well, he would say something like that, wouldn't he? But the success of the DS is certainly nothing to sniff at, as it occupies the number two spot for software sales and dumps the PSP into third place. A significant portion of software sales can be attributed to non-traditional games. Over half of all European DS owners now have a copy of Nintendogs whilst Dr Kawashima's Brain Training has sold two million copies and managed to stay in the charts for six months.
Well done 'Tendy. SPOnG's proud of you.

I got a DS Lite for Christmas, and I must say it's the most fun i've ever had on a console, handheld or otherwise, Dr Kawashima's Brain Training is a stroke of genius, the games are a lot more enjoyable than those on the PSP.
I can't wait until it interfaces with the Wii (if shops ever have them in stock)

What's more amazing is that Nintendo is making a record profit of over 800 million dollars this fiscal year (ending at march) while they had R&D and production costs for their Wii.
And don't come with that "but it's only GC"...that's the most advanced controller up to date with bluetooth, infrared triangular computing, rumble and 2 gyro's and it still can run 30 hours on 2 batteries...beat that...eeuh....anybody out there!
