Tokyo Game Show Expands
Organisers of the Tokyo Game Show have announced that the event will get an extra date added to it.

Event organisers, Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), have said that the show will now open on Thursday September 20th and run until Sunday 24th. The show has only run from Friday to Sunday in the past. The additional date will be industry-only, meaning business attendees will get two exclusive days instead of the traditional two.

The announcement states (in this terrible Google translation) that the show: "starts being complete function as international trade Shaw". Translating a bit further, the additional day is aimed at expanding the show's focus on international business.

It's likely that the expansion is an attempt to pick up some of the slack left by E3's massive scaling down. E3 will now be strictly industry-only and will take place in hotel suites rather than featuring the spectacle of the E3 of old.

With E3 already having fallen victim the spiralling costs of attending these shows for publishers, however, it has to be asked: have huge, flashy shows passed their sell-by date? Let us know in the Forum.
