GTA Muscles Into Japanese Charts

Although it took its sweet time getting there

GTA Muscles Into Japanese Charts
After a hefty delay getting to Japan Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has topped the charts there.

The final PS2 entry in the GTA series entered the Japanese charts with an impressive 225,000 copies sold. The figure is above average even for a Japanese title debuting at Number 1.

It took San Andreas a while to get to Japan, however. The game saw a (more successful than here) series of complaints following a media outcry similar to that seen in the West. It underwent several edits before hitting shelves, including the removal of the option to shoot downed civilians. It has also been given the toughest possible age restriction of Z.

This isn't the first time a GTA title has debuted at Number 1 in Japan. Vice City jumped in at the top spot there in 2004.

Also of note in the Japanese chart today is the fact that eight of the Top 10 titles are for either the Wii or the DS. The other two titles were for the PS2, making the Wii the only next-gen platform in the Top 10.

Embarrassingly for Sony the only Top 50 entry for the PS3 is From Software's Enchanted Arms at Number 29.
