PS3 Price Plummet Predicts Japanese Expert
"There could be a price cut for the PS3 by the end of the year, and more software titles will hit the market. I expect the PS3 to be doing better after a while”, Enterbrain’s president, Hirokazu Hamamura, has told journalists today. Enterbrain is the publisher of Japanese ‘gaming bible’, Famitsu.

"Of course, the Wii will keep running ahead all the while,” he continued, having released figures showing that the Wii has outsold the PlayStation 3 by nearly 3-to-1throughout January 2007 in Japan.

According to Hamamura, “a wider range of software titles for the Wii is luring more users, while the PS3s higher price tag is hindering sales growth”. Another Japanese creator of all things statistical, Media Create, claims the following for over-the-counter sales in Japan in the week commencing January 22nd:

Wii: 83,754 (Total sales since launch in Japan: 1,378,831)
PS3: 19,996 (Total sales since launch in Japan: 594,134)
360: 7,365 (Total sales since launch in Japan: 306,379)

SPOnG spoke with a Nintendo rep in the UK this morning who told us, “While we cannot officially comment on Wii’s performance in other territories, clearly we are overjoyed at the news.”

We’ve also contacted Sony and Microsoft for comment – and are awaiting responses.
