The online gaming community pays its tributes to a lost friend this week, following the tragic death of young York barman and keen gamer, Jamie Tidswell who died suddenly having been struck down by viral myocarditis - an inflammation of the heart muscles, aged only 21.
Jamie was an enthusiastic player of Day Of Defeat, World Of Warcraft and Counter-Strike. Numerous posts from Jamie’s online gaming mates on fan-sites for all three games have been sent containing messages of condolence to Jamie’s family.
Jamie’s parents Pauline and Derek told The York Press that they have been “overwhelmed" that so many gamers have marked their son's passing by paying their respects.
Derek said: "It's amazing how many websites have done the same type of thing - from Australia to the States, he touched so many people."
It’s encouraging to see Jamie’s parents being supported in this way. Despite so much negative publicity recently – most of which is based on hearsay and media-driven hysteria – the fact is that online gaming networks are able to prove in a very real way that they can be genuine communities.
SPOnG’s thoughts are with Jamie’s family at this time. If you wish to add to the online book of condolence for Jamie then please go to: Online book of condolences

Absolutely. I feel that we ran the story that Adam wrote with sufficient respect. I certainly hope that it comes over as such.

I would'nt want the gaming press to latch on to this tradgedy like the anti-gaming press. This truly is a touching tribute to a well liked gamer. It also highlights the caring nature of many gamers and not like the often blood thirsty mob we are potrait in the press.
