The PS3 Confused With Wii

Lots of online action for pre-orders plus some hilarity!

Here it is, the PS3 confused with the Wii. Who'd A Thunk It?
22 Feb 2007

Despite Sony apparently looking for a new ad agencies to work on the PlayStation 3 launch, it looks as if the pre-order frenzy for the next-gen monster is now in high gear.

Argos, GameStation, HMV, Currys, Toys "R" Us, Game and Amazon are all up and running, getting ready to take your money so you can play Motorstorm on March 23rd. In fact, there would appear to be a glut of PS3s on tap to pre-order if Amazon’s FAQ is to be believed.

” When will I be able to pre-order my PlayStation 3 console?
From Thursday, February 15, 2007.
We’re working closely with Sony to maximise the number of consoles we'll have for launch, and will stop taking pre-orders once we've pre-sold all the consoles Sony allocate to us for release day. We won't take pre-orders for more consoles than we can supply for launch day.”

The promise not to over-sell is mirrored by Argos:

"Argos will stop taking pre-orders once this allocation has been sold. Argos will never knowingly oversell the console, accessories or the software."

And the niggling thought that maybe there's not going to be a PS3 drought is given even more credence with Game's statement that:

"GREAT NEWS : We are now able to confirm delivery for launch day for all existing preorders. If you have not yet ordered, HURRY and place your order now for guaranteed delivery on the 23rd March!"

Seven days selling and still going strong on Amazon… stronger in pre-sale it would appear than the Wii is live on the Amazon best-seller list. In this ad hoc 'chart' Wii rates at Number 3 below the PS3 (at 1) and Crackdown (2).

Oh, in case you're worrying, the 360 is 34th on the same list at time of writing (just below the iToy Camera - and five places below PS2!)

One tiny, weeny little clerical error did, however, bring a guffaw to the SPOnG newsroom. You can see it illustrated in the screenshot to the right – but in short, it appears on Game’s pre-order page, which says:

”Please note that due to high demand for Nintendo Wii, we are limiting orders to one console per customer”

That darned Wii, eh? Gets everywhere…

Because Wii's are in short supply, GAME will only let you buy one PS3

It's only fair. Why should Sony fans be able to buy multiple consoles when Nintendo fans can only by one or fewer.
