GDC: Microsoft to Release Bigger 360 Memory Unit

Plus new Xbox Live Arcade titles detailed

Yup, it’s the Game Developers Conference 2007 in San Francisco this week, with SPOnG’s team of intrepid reporters currently making its way over to the Bay area to bring you the latest news and some cracking high-profile interviews through the coming week.

The first news coming out of San Fran’ today is that Microsoft is planning to release a new Xbox 360 memory unit (MU), which will enable Core 360 owners to play bigger (and better) Xbox Live Arcade games.

Microsoft informs the world that a 512Mb MU will begin retailing for at $49.99 in North America in April, pre-loaded with the wonderful Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. No word yet on a Euro release, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted on that. The original 64MB Memory Unit will drop in price from $39.99 to $29.99

Additionally , Microsoft will show off the following XBLA titles at GDC:

Boom Boom Rocket (EA and Bizarre Creations, pictured) - a rhythm music game that will launch on Xbox LIVE Arcade this spring, priced at 800 Microsoft Points.

3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures (Sierra Online and Wanako Games). The first outdoor sports game on Xbox LIVE Arcade; 36 holes on courses that include settings such as the Classic Carnival and Outer Space.

Eets: Chowdown (Klei Entertainment Inc) - new version of the popular PC title, Eets: Chowdown; a fun puzzle game on Xbox LIVE Arcade, features new items and 120 new levels.

Jetpac Refuelled (Rare Ltd) - the 1983 classic space blaster with enhanced graphics and Xbox LIVE features; players must clear a path through hordes of aliens to refuel their ship and amass a fortune over the course of more than 100 high-definition levels.

Pinball FX (ZEN Studios Ltd) - features real-time, head-to-head competition over Xbox LIVE and Xbox LIVE Vision camera support.
