Yep, with a mere three days to go before the PlayStation 3’s European launch, those persistent, recurring rumours about a forthcoming 120GB uber Xbox 360 pick up pace today, with the publication of a Game Informer magazine piece claiming that a black 120GB Xbox 360 with HDMI output and an HDMI cable (yet still no inbuilt HD-DVD playback) will retail for approximately US $479 (a shade under £245).

Game Informer’s editor Matt Helgeson has claimed to Kotaku – who also republished the magazine scans you can see right here - that this is NOT an April Fools.

So make of that what you will.

SPOnG has contacted Microsoft in the UK for further clarification on the matter. Updates as soon as we get them.

Oh, they might as well go all the way and put HD-DVD in it as well. After all, that's kind of the point in selling different versions of the XB360 - people who buy the top-of-the-range one expect it to do everything straight away.

because the colour of it and size of the hard drive is some what superficial. where as if they get it running cooler, quieter and more efficiently then it becomes the console it should have been in the beginning.

If it has HDMI, I'd still want it to have HD-DVD built in!

In fact, despite the denials, I'd still bet on it having HD-DVD built in!

I don't think it will have HDDVD built in because that would make the stand alone HD players not sell, and they are doing okay from what I hear. Beside that I hope MS sell that 120 hard drive as a single accessory too.

£245 is a damn good price for that black model. Even if it were to launch over here at £300, that's still a damn site better than PS3 in value for money.
