SPOnG contacted Sony to see if the UK will, in fact, be getting any lower end PS3s before the end of the year. While not giving a definite 'no,' Sony's head of UK PR, David Wilson, said of the 20GB console I haven't seen any. We don't have any here.
The date shown on Amazon may well be a place holder. It would certainly be an odd choice by Sony to begin advertising the cheaper PS3 on the same day as the 60GB model goes on sale.
Following last night's official PS3 launch in London Sony doesn't seem too concerned about getting the cheaper model to shop shelves just yet. Wilson was pleased with the number of units Sony's managed to ship. We've got more stock than we've ever had for a launch, Wilson told SPOnG. Mentioning the UK's first PS3 owner, Ritatsu Thomas, Wilson said He didn't need to be there! Although SPOnG imagines he's not complaining too much thanks to his brand new Bravia TV.
However, the real indicator of how well last night's launch went will be attendance and sales figures when they arrive. SPOnG will keep you posted.

I'm starting to think they called it Wii just so we'd all get a laugh out of it and maybe play it some more.

Going on the number of trade-ins I've heard about - that tactic might not be working. Perhaps Nintendo ought to concentrate on getting some decent games on to the machine -- games that use the remote as it was intended.
As for a 20GB PS3 -- maybe Sony are trying to fob off all the packs thqat went unsold in the US? Reply

In which case they would have better BC and may be worth looking out for if that's your thing! Reply
