PlayStation Online Store Problems Across Europe

And Saudi Arabia too!

PlayStation Online Store Problems Across Europe
According to numerous posts on the official European PS3 boards, PS3 owners across Europe and Saudi Arabia are experiencing problems connecting to the online PlayStation Store via their shiny new PS3s.

It seems, according to these sources, that PSN is not working for gamers in the following countries:

• Greece
• Israel
• Saudi Arabia
• Bulgaria
• Slovenia
• Iceland
• Turkey

The first forum post on the official boards, from an irate Greek gamer, simply states:

“Sorry for the off-topic here but i couldn`t find any more suitable forum. So the problem here in greece is that we have bought the playstation 3 60 euro more than most european country and to our surprize sony have made angry. After coming home and creating account to playstation network when we tryied to log on to the ps store to download grand turismo HD and buy tekken we were informed that the ps store is not available in our country Greece.Does anyone has the same problem?
I would like personally to thanks sony for :
1.Make us pay 60 euros more than other EU residents
2.Ban us from Ps store”

It would seem that this is far from an isolated problem – with gamers from Iceland all the way down to Saudi Arabia experiencing similar issues when trying to log on to PSN.

SPOnG has spoken with SCE’s PR reps in the UK this morning to find out more about why these problems are occurring and what is being done to fix them, so stay tuned to hear back on this as soon as we do.

No probs logging on, viewing store or downloading trailers. However, I had issues downloading the Motorstorm update on Saturday. Worked first time on Sunday though.

Another sensationalist headline Spong PS3 dig? Why not have a story about how there where no problems with online in the majority of other European countries, especially in the UK where Spong is based. When was Saudi Arabia a member Europe?

What in anybody's language is sensationalist about:

"PlayStation Network Problems Across Europe"

I can quite understand if we'd written: "PSN Destroyed In Northern Hemisphere" or "PSN Totally Down In Europe" - but a headline that says, "Problems" when there have reportedly been problems is in no way sensationalist.

As for Saudi Arabia being in Europe - of course it isn't. We didn't say it was - read the first sentence of the piece. The constraints of headline length made 'Europe' the most apposite word to use in the head.

A story about the fact that there were no problems elsewhere? How does that help a reader who is experiencing problems and wants to know if he or she is the only one.

I hope I've made it clear now that I'm open to criticism - in fact I welcome it to SPOnG in order to tighten up our coverage - but come on now... 'Sensationalist'?

I added the question mark to pose a question, I'm not accusing you of anything. Your headline read ".. Across Europe" which makes it sound like the whole of Europe, when in all probability the majority of Europe has had no problems. Not wishing to sound flippant but why would an English based website be concerned with the PSN in Saudi Arabia. How many of your readership comes from those countries that you listed?

Here I go again, leaping into the fight. I think you have to understand that when anything like a console or PC goes online, the boarders that divide countries in the real world disappear somewhat. When Spong say across europe, they don't actaully mean 'all across europe', but in the context of Spong being a gaming website, positive or negative it needs to be highlighted anyway. Gaming is also a global phenomenon, so to only say something because it only effects the u.k/eu isn't the answer all the time.

It would be no different if there was a new deadly PC virus out there, or 360 getting an update, its still worth saying something. I recall Spong reporting when a certain 360 update was killing 360s totally, but not everyone (myself included, a u.k resident) experienced this, its still good to know and be wary of, just in case. This is no different with PS3.

Sure, Sony get it in the neck a lot of late, but nothing they didn't bring on themselves. Tomorrow, it'll be someone elses turn.

Some very fair points; but it's the "across" I took issue with, as I think you have unintentionally pointed out.

It just came across as an over the top blanket generalization, that on reading the article the majority of Europe seem to be unaffected.

Yep, what you have downloaded is the unlock that turns the demo into the full game. I got exactly the same thing with Super Rub a Dub.

What I did was delete the 100k download, you can download it as many times as you with from the "Download list" in the PS Store. Next download the demo or "starter pack" then re-download the game from your download list. You will now have the full game.

It is a fault that this procedure is not made known anywhere, or at least I didn't notice it on the PS store anywhere, but at least you haven't wasted your money.

There are problems but not with getting 'free' items from the store
most problems are things like not being able to add funds to
our ps store account and not being able to register
our card details, I have experienced BOTH and it is really
annoying, I am hopeing it will be fixed soon or someone
finds a was around the errors that display

From the United Kingdom , England

I've got this problem. First day i get my PS3 Slim, i'm kinda checkin it out you know? ;D I try going to the PS Store, no problems at all, downloaded the trial of Battlefield 1943, which is awesome by the way. Anyhoo, i then tried to log into the PS Store a week later, and i get this error: "This service is not available in your country/region". I was like, What the heck? I was on the Store a week earlier and as a matter of fact, 2 days earlier. What the hell is going on?

Well I live in the U.K and have had my 60gig Ps3 for a couple of years now. I've never had problems with Playstaion store until today I tried to connect and it gave me the message, "not recognised in your country/region!" Mine is a totally unmodified system so this is definately a Sony problem.
