SPOnG told you last week of Tecmo/Team Ninja’s plans to bring a touchscreen, (sideways, book-style) handheld version of Ninja Gaiden to DS.

Now we can bring you the first trailer of this intriguing looking handheld game, entitled Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, straight from Japan-land.

Players will use the DS stylus to control Ryu through the game world. Drawing special characters will cast spells, double-tapping will jump, lashing motions will produce different kinds of attack, while the buttons will provide various defensive moves.

"The Nintendo DS will allow gamers to control Master Ninja Ryu Hayabusa slash for slash with the use of the DS Stylus in a way never possible in previous iterations of the game," commented Team Ninja’s Yoh Watanbe, adding that, "Dragon Sword will be the definitive ninja title for all DS owners to experience."

intriguing indeed! i have every confidence this will be a very satisfying game. it will probably also be super rock solid, with only super human calligraphers being able to beat it.

Nice looking game. I'd buy this. I like the DS on its side like that for play. Very welcome, Tecmo.
