Two Resident Evils for Wii This Year

Resi 4 and Umbrella Chronicles detailed

Posted by Staff
SPOnG is glad to announce that Wii gamers will be getting not one, but two Resident Evil games this year – with a Wii-version of Resident Evil 4 and Umbrella Chronicles both set to arrive afore Christmas.

This week’s Famitsu magazine reveals the first details on the Wii conversion of Resident Evil 4, with full Wii Remote/Nunchuck functionality, in which you get to shoot and stab in a realistic fashion. Cool.

OK, Bio Hazard 4: Wii Edition (working title) is a port, as Wii-naysayers are quick to point out. But what a port!

The second piece of Resident Evil news today is that new title Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles is set to be an on-rails first-person shooter, according to Famitsu. The player will be restricted to a set path, using the analogue stick on the Nunchuk to look around while aiming and shooting with the Wii Remote.

SPOnG just spoke with a Capcom PR rep in the UK who informed us that we will be obtaining the first screens and first ‘official’ information on both games later this week, so we’ll be sure to bring you that the minute we get it.

Reswii4!! wiipointer aiming!!It's a perfect fit for a allready fantastic game. Also it transfers the Resi4 engine to the Wii (hopefully adapted to the Wii) which could make Wii-developement with the engine go smoother in the future.

now hoping Capcom adds in all the PS2-extra's with at least GC-graphics.

all PS2's extras are included, with the requisite graphical shininess

this is superb news

Hey that's good, they should do them both in a pack though, two for the price of one, like Zelda. However at a reduced price, I'd have no problem buying RE4 again. So nice, i'd buy it twice.

Umbrella is an on rails shooter! Well I hope Capcom have learned from their previous average FPS style shooter in this series. I pray they don't mess it up. No sign of Time Crisis coming to Wii, so this'll do nicely.

id need noticably better gfx, supertight controls and more new-to-nintendo content than just the ps2 version extras to make me purchase this, but i dont hold my breath. ive already played it more times than ive had hot dinners, and its been milked quite roundly i feel.

that umbrella chronicles is a railed shooter is the worst news ive heard in a while. combined with the resi 4 news, this means that the best resi game on the wii will be a port of a gamecube game >:(

Don't count the chicks just yet, Rise. Hold off and wait and see what Capcom say or show next week. I have a hunch both games will be good. Wii isn't you average arcade shooter set up, so despite Capcom's track record with these type of games they deserve a chance to turn it around.

Capcom have been exposed to a lot of western games on xbox and 360, games which I think may have also helped the get RE4 right. Don't forget japanese gamers hate FPS games, so mixing third person and over the shoulder view was a winner.

I'm a big Biohazard fan anyway so I'd like both. Would be cool if RE:UC has online options.

i have no doubt that RE4Wii will be good, as i have already played it ;). but therein lies my cynicism

chronicles could very well be good, but its an on rails shooter. just not the experience i want from a resi game. thats what hotd is for

Neither of them sound very exciting to me; when, if ever, will we see a new Resi game on Wii?
