Worms' first crack at Open Warfare
Tags
The sequel to last year's Worms: Open Warfare from Team17 will come with all-singing, all-dancing (and all-new) online modes. So now you'll be able to blow up not just your mates, but folk from wherever they have electricity. Ah, the wonderful unifying power of cartoon violence... Once you're done blowing chunks out of each other you'll be able to wander over to the leaderboards to see how you rank up.
The game will also come with new single and multiplayer modes to compliment the classic deathmatch. 'Rope Race,' 'Fort,' 'Puzzle' and 'Campaign' modes are all up for grabs. Joining new weapons such as the Bunker Buster, Buffalo of Lies and Concrete Donkey are new customisation options such as creating your own landscapes as well as team flags and picking your own tombstone.
Worms: Open Warfare gave the franchise a much-needed push back to the glory days of 2D worming and proved that Worms and handheld gaming are a snug fit. SPOnG's mightily pleased to see the series take the step online.
The fellas down at Team17 have been busy chaps recently. Worms came out on Xbox Live last month, while it's more pacifistic cousin, Lemmings, made its next-gen debut on the PS3 as a download at the console's launch.
Expect Open Warfare 2 to break out this summer. SPOnG's had a chance to get a bit of hands-on time with the game and will be telling you all about it next month.

Great that they're including an online mode for the DS finally, but a new 2D Worms for the PC would be nice.

Exactly what the first should have been. Can't wait for it. Great to see they've returned to doing good videos as well.
