First PlayStation Home Beta Invitations Sent

But don't panic!

27 Apr 2007

Sony has begun sending out invitations to the PlayStation Home beta. Before you become overwhelmed, with feelings of rejection, however, let SPOnG reassure you that only a very select few have received them.

So far, invites (see the attached image) have only gone out to members of the Games Advisory Panel (G.A.P.), a privileged bunch who enjoy exclusive access to betas to act as Sony correspondents.

In the meantime, the rest of us have to wait for the Home beta sign-up sheet to go live. Once it does, interested PS3 owners have to sign up in the hope that they'll be one of the lucky few invited to join.

SPOnG had a quick word with Sony and was told that there's no concrete date for the beta to go live. It'll “hopefully” be early May, but we're awaiting confirmation. We were advised that there may be further information released later today. That would certainly make sense, as many sources are mistakenly reporting that the invitation process is in full swing.

According to a leaked Q & A about Home, the closed beta will run until August, when an open beta will commence. Since the Q & A also stated that the beta will start in April and it hasn't materialised, however, that's looking like an unreliable source.
