Counter Strike Gamer In Sword Controversy
Pupil expelled after he made maps of school on Counter Strike

3 May 2007
Swords were found by police in the room of a 17-year-old Texas student who was being investigated for creating Counter Strike maps based on areas of his school. Although the swords were cited as a cause for concern about the pupil it's possible that they may have been purely decorative.
The information surfaced thanks to reports released by the Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) Police Department, which deals exclusively with schools in the area, earlier this week.
The student (who hasn't been named) has not been charged, but he was transferred to M.R. Wood Alternative Education Center, a school that deals with delinquent students last month.
One FBISD board member involved in the process, Stan Magee, has since criticised the decision, stating that he doesn't believe the student to be a threat. “I feel we went beyond our jurisdiction,” he said. “If he put something on a computer at Clements, that’s different – but he didn’t do that. I think we’ve jumped the gun here.” One person close to the case has also stated that the swords might not be usable, suggesting they might be purely decorative.

FBISD spokeswoman Mary Ann Simpson disagreed, however, stating, “When you have the floor plan of a high school that houses over 2,000 students in a game about killing people, you have to have consequences. .. Ever since Columbine, anything that remotely looks like a threat has to be taken very seriously. The minute we don’t, something serious is going to happen.”
Simpson also indicated that other reasons came into play for the student's expulsion, although she wouldn't state what.
