SPOnG last caught a good look at the next gen Alone in the Dark at X06 last September. The few scenes we saw from the game which were set in and around NYC’s Central Park looked jaw-droppingly beautiful. And news just in from Atari is that the storyline is going to be something rather special too, with writer Lorenzo Carcaterra, (best known for book-of-movie Sleepers) penning scripts for the game’s episodes.

Born and raised in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood, Carcaterra began his writing career as a reporter for the New York Daily News in 1976. He has written a bunch of other best-selling books including Apaches, Gangster, Chasers, Street Boys and A Safe Place. Plus, for those who don’t read, he has also worked as a writer and producer for Law & Order.

"Alone in the Dark was a challenge which allowed me to bring a realistic feel to an apocalyptic situation facing New York City and really dig into the Central Park conspiracy idea," said Carcaterra in a statement. "It also allowed me to write for hard-edged characters, some good, some bad, all forced to confront a force whose power they could never imagine. The story never stalls, always moves in overdrive and the characters zoom right along at warp speed, stopping long enough along the way to say a few lines that keep driving the plot forward..."

Alone in the Dark is being developed by Eden Games is developing the title for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. An official release date is still to be announced, but we currently expect to see the game sometime before Christmas 2007.
