The Charts: PS3 Boosts Spider-Man 3 Performance

Nintendo platforms dominate Top 10

22 May 2007

Activision's Spider-Man 3 is still hanging on at Number 1 in the All-Formats Charts this week, thanks in most part to its belated appearance on the PS3.

Despite Spidey's Sony next-gen tardiness, Sony platforms now account for a healthy portion of Spider-Man 3's sales. The PS3 can claim credit for 19%, while the PS2 notches up 49% of the film tie-in's sales. Activision's getting close to topping the five weeks it spent at the top of the charts with Spider-Man 2. SPOnG does find it a bit depressing, however, that Spider-Man 3 marks Activision's first All Formats Number 1 since Madagascar came out in 2005.

EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and Crackdown from Microsoft are the only significant movers in the Top 10 this week. Tiger Woods benefits from strong Wii sales and jumps from Number 10 to Number 6. Crackdown, meanwhile, reaps the benefits of Halo 3 finally getting a release date and its portal to the Halo 3 beta, to storm up from Number 19 to Number 8.

It must be said, there's not a huge amount of movement in the Top 10 this week. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars from EA is another non-mover at Number 2, still performing well thanks to its 360 release.

The budget release of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 on the PS2, PSP and 360 sees it crawl up another place to Number 3. It swaps positions with Wii Play, which is now down to Number 4. Another Nintendo-platform party game sits beneath it, with 505 Games' Cooking Mama for the Wii and DS at Number 5.

The DS rounds out the Top 10 with a couple of exclusives. Brain Training
jumps back into the Top 10 (again) at Number 9, up from Number 16. Meanwhile, Square Enix's Final Fantasy III slips from Number 7 to Number 10.

Next week, expect Cap'n Jack Sparrow to stick his nose in (probably at Number 1), as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End gets released on every platform you could drunkenly wave a sword at. Expect Mario to score, too, with Mario Strikers Charged Football, (a review of which can be found here.)
