Nintendo US Media Summit – Report Inside
Act casual

25 May 2007
Some slight disappointment from the American online games press attending Nintendo's US Media Summit in in Seattle this week over the fact that there were no new playable versions made available on the big N’s top Wii and DS titles for summer/autumn ’07 - namely Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (due to release in the US on 20 August) and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on DS.
Well, while Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may well be the most anticipated Wii title of the summer for gamers at least, it seems that the Seattle event this week was more about reinforcing the ‘casual’ message with the focus heavily on the first party titles such as Big Brain Academy on Wii,
Brain Age 2, Picross DS, the Tetris-a-like Planet Puzzle League and family favourite Mario Party 8 all hogging the limelight.
Additionally, Nintendo is very keen to shout about third party partner’s casual titles such as Ubisoft’s handheld guitar title Jam Sessions, EA’s dance-a-thon Boogie and Take 2’s recently announced Carnival Games.
Not to worry, of course. We’ll get plenty of time with the proper games at E3 no doubt. Right now, let’s rejoice that the Wii’s first fully online game is out in the UK today (a European Nintendo exclusive no less) and get in another quick game on the wonder that is Mario Strikers Charged.

My biggest worry is that Nintendo don't get too carried away with the casual gamer bit. A huge percent of their customers are young males, so more meaty games are needed.
Some of that lot look good though.
