SPOnG informed you last week that Sony Ericsson has recently filed a patent detailing the specifications for a potential PSP phone (pictured right), featuring a moveable screen, which swivels 90-degrees into widescreen mode.
Sony Computer Entertainment’s CEO David Reeves has gone on record this morning claiming no knowledge of this proposed PSP phone from Sony Ericsson, telling MCV, “I know the head of Sony Ericsson very well. He has a Walkman phone and a Cybershot phone available, but I know nothing about a PSP phone. I haven’t heard anything about it at all – and I would know. They wouldn’t develop it without our knowledge.”
SCEE’s Corporate PR Manager Nick Sharples, speaking to SPOnG earlier today was slightly more circumspect, telling us that, "At the moment we have no information on it, as soon as we do we will of course let you know".
SPOnG also put in a call to Sony Ericsson this morning to chase this up. A Sony Ericsson PR rep seemed to confuse the story with the recent announcement of VOIP-enabled PSPs.
However, Sony Ericsson are now looking into the matter with SPOnG having drawn their attention to the original US patent, filed by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan, Inc. So expect an update from Sony Ericsson UK on this very soon.
The MCV story can be found here.
