60 Year Old Man Can't Sell Atari History

Historic Mario and Kong images remain unsold

22 Jun 2007

The Tri-Valley Herald in California reports that 60-year-old Pleasanton resident, Cort Allen has failed to sell what was estimated to be $250,000 (£125k) worth of classic gaming history at Sotheby's auctioneers in New York this week.

According to The Herald, "Allen stumbled onto the treasure trove of gaming goodness when he was looking for used furniture for his new company in the mid-1980s. He stopped by a fire sale of old Atari office equipment and found 40 cabinets full of the original artwork for the game cartridges and the original manual write-ups — including drafts for a manual for the game "Robotron 2084," classic artwork from "Dig Dug" and early images of such characters such as Mario and Donkey Kong, for Atari versions of the classic Nintendo games."

Cort was able to pick up the filing cabinets and the valuable contents for $2 (£1) each, as they were being emptied of their contents - estimated at 350lbs.

No big surprise it didn't sell...

Someone snapped some photo's of this supposed "collection" Yeah a collection all-right...

of beat up old junk.

This fool actually bought into Sotheby's non-expect value-izing of the items and now thinks this compost is worth over $100K USD...

The photo's show damaged, discoloured and washed out photo's, all with markings and crap all over of them, not even nice stuff to hang up.

So the reason he can't see it is he dragged a rusted out of hulk and thought he was selling a Bentley.

Take your rubbish and sell it on ebay for $10K usd or better yet - why not donate it to places like atarimuseum.com or klov.com or atarigames.com that actually know how to carefor and go out of their way to publish such items up on the web for everyone to enjoy.
