PS3 Outselling Wii and Xbox 360 Down Under
Sony's having a G'day

29 Jun 2007
The PS3 has been outselling both the 360 and the Wii consistently since its launch in Australia, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia's managing director, Michael Ephraim, has said.
"Based on GfK since launch, PS3 has been the number one next-gen console, outselling Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week," Ephraim said in an interview.
He went on, "Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one-selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures. We've now sold 50,000--and we're very excited about the fact that it's being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you'll notice it's now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronic stores as a Blu-ray player."
Ephraim's comments are no doubt in reaction to Nintendo, which was bragging last week that it had sold 100,000 units in Oz since it launched last year.

The PS3's Aussie performance is in stark contrast with its Japanese sales. The console has been suffering over there of late. It dropped below the 'psychological' threshold of 10,000 sales per week last month. Japan is also effectively getting a PS3 price cut, a move from Sony that may have been prompted by the console's flagging sales.

Don't forget people, the PS3 was released in March compared to the Wii's December and whenever the 360 was released. PS3 was the new kid on the block so it's expected to get the initial high sales and all that but now the Wii is doing what it is doing everywhere else and outselling it again. Sony just had to put a nice spin on it to make themselves not look like they're doing crap. Even still, down under is the smallest market anyway so it wouldn't be a major achievement if they were actually doing well there.
