Nintendo Ups Profit Predictions for 2007/08

Expects to shift 16.5 million Wii’s this financial year

Another day, another news story about the run-away financial successes that are the Nintendo Wii and DS. Today, Nintendo informs SPOnG that shipment forecasts for both consoles have been considerably increased for the current financial year, following a massively successful first quarter.

Nintendo’s net inome rose to 80.3 billion yen (a cool £325 million) up from 15.5 billion yen for the same quarter last year, with the full-year net income projection for financial year April 2007-March 2008 today increased 40 percent up to 245 billion yen (£993 million). Blimey!

Nintendo now plans to ship 16.5 million Wii consoles for this current fiscal year ending March 31st, 2008, and 26 million DSs (shipment targets up from the previous 14 million Wiis and 22 million DSs).

In terms of software Nintendo has upped the Wii software unit forecast to 72m and DS software to 140 million (increased from 55m and 130 million, respectively).

Worldwide, Wii sales are just under ten million units and DS sales are over 47 million. Just wait to see what happens when Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and more AAA-Wii titles launch later this year, followed by Wii Fit and the new Mario Kart for Wii title (pictured here) early in 2008.

wow go nintendo, its crazy but a few years ago i would of imagined nintendo doing a sega in the home console arena but now they are ruling and respect has got to be given for creating a best selling handheld cosole and home console both at afforadable price points and making profit from day one on both!, Sony and Microsoft must be taking serious note on all this, just shows nintendo have done there research and grpahics are nothign when compared to gameplay, ds over psp shows this and wii over 360 and ps3 also show this, but please nintendo the Wii2 cant we have our cake and eat it?

Good for them, they deserve it. Get that Wii hard drive out and we'll all be happier for them.

To be this good takes ages. Nintendo know their game well, that's why they are still here (and Sega in a sense aren't).

Need to kill rising...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Nintendo's success firmly lies in it's price point. Make it so cheap that anyone can buy it - thats why DS sells more than PSP and why Wii is selling faster than either PS3 or 360.

You only need to check around some forums to get a feel for many former Wii fans getting very angry at the dated graphics and shallow variety of gameplay - a long cry of the promised revolution. I haven't seen a Wii game with more depth than a puddle to date. And you can't count cube games like Zelda & RE4 as they are, well, Cube games. IGN has started kicking up a huge fuss about Mario Galaxy being the second coming and made some of the most outrageous comments I've read in a while...hopefully it's not just rabid fanboism like all the Zelda reviews. That game was a solid 8.5 at best - sites giving it 10's were just deluded. Gamespot was spot-on with their review (for once).

Just a perspective from a 'gamer' of 20+ odd years that's owned every gaming console known to man.

got to agree been playing resi evil 4 again and although i llove the new controls and it is a cube game i find myself thinking how much better this would be on my 360, or even playing wii sports although its great fun with the kids i cant help but get annoyed at the jaggies, dont get me wrong here i feel the wii is great and needed to revolutionise gaming, but it DOES need better graphics and it deffinatly needs some freshness adding to the controls, now i just hope this is the calm before the storm liek when the ds came out and im really hoping for mario galaxy and mario kart to perform and i want 3rd parties to start to find the right use of controls, we dont need extravigant swinging and twisting of controllers look at super paper mario again a cube game but the wii mote controls are just right and i feel devs are looking too hard about the control schemes remember ninty advertise this on simple play!
