SKATE: Tricky New Video

Organic skating at its skatiest

13 Aug 2007

One of the aspects of SKATE that EA is pimping to the nth degree is the control system. The publisher, it seems, thinks it's really, really good. Don't believe us? We've got the second video detailing what EA is calling the 'flickit' control system.

When SPOnG caught up with Jay Balmer, associate producer on SKATE, he told us:

"Yeah, well we really wanted to bring the actual feeling of skateboarding to life, so from the initial design stages we asked ourselves ‘OK what controls do we want to press to recreate the feeling of an ollie?’ ‘What feels right?’ ‘What would I want to do to grab the board?’ ‘What makes sense?’… So, we really developed that organically so it feels right."

What the video shows us is that "organic" entails using an analogue stick to dictate moves rather than the traditional button-bashing. To find out what SPOnG thought of the whole thing, check out our preview.

If you want to see the control system controlling a real human, follow us this way.

First, however, cast your eyes downwards, then head over to SPOnG's dedicated SKATE game page.
