Microsoft’s Xbox 360 comes down in price from today with the Core console now costing only £179.99 (the price of a Wii) and the Premium system with a 20GB HDD priced at £249.99, to accompany the launch of the 120GB, HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 Elite today (RRP £299.99).
“We expect it to be a massive weekend for games and console sales,” said Woolworths games buyer Alastair Burks, adding, “Competition is intense in the games market and all the big retailers are cutting prices and offering deals to try and stay ahead of the game. We believe our PlayStation 3 deal is the best in the market and expect it to be phenomenally popular.”
“This summer’s indifferent weather has meant shoppers turning to indoor pursuits instead of going to the beach or a barbecue. As a result games sales at Woolworths have hit record levels for this time of year.”
The Woolies offer ends on 27th August.

Let's take bets on what the price is going to be in the January sales - I reckon £299 for a similar bundle to this one.
Anyone want to go lower?

or you could go to cash convertors and get a second hand one (which is only about 2 weeks old) with 4 games for £315.00, and then when you decide you want a 360 or wii instead you wont be losing as much when you trade it in again.

And this way, you'll also get a nice visit from Her Majesty's Plod three weeks later. At best it will be broken. At least if you but a 2nd hand one at Gamestation or the like, they know how to test that it works.

I'd bet that PS3, will be selling for £300, by the end of 2008.
The Woolworths deal is only limited for a time, and as I write this has now finished. I don't see Sony dropping that price again officially until new year at least.
I'm still not buying one, when I can get a 360 Elite for £300. If Sony can equally match that, then and only then will I invest in one.

i left that bit out, because i didnt think the police would bother with theft when there are people speeding to be given tickets, anyway i agree that consoles should not be bought from dodgy backstreet pawn shops or even dodgy high street ones, so ignore my previos comments :-)
