SCi Entertainment Group - the UK-based owners of Eidos - has confirmed that it is in very early discussions with a potential purchaser, according to a report in the video game trade journal, MCV this morning.

As ever when it comes to buy-outs in the video game industry, Electronic Arts is in the running as a purchaser. This comes in the light of the company's management restructures and the admission by its CEO John Riccitiello, who recently told The Wall Street Journal, "We're boring people to death and making games that are harder and harder to play”.

However, as we reported in December of 2006, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has already bought a 10% stake in SCi valued at the time at £44.4-million.

The statement made today confirms that SCi is in early negotiations and reads as follows:
“Following the recent speculation in the press, the Board of SCi Entertainment Group plc confirms that it has received an approach and as a result has entered into extremely preliminary discussions regarding a possible offer for the Company. No proposal has been received at this time, however, and there can be no certainty that any offer for the Company will be made or as to the terms of any such offer were one to be made.”

So, it's early days yet, and the news has certainly given the company's share price a much needed boost. We wait, we see.
