The New York Daily news obituaries column - as spotted by Games Politics - has reported the passing of Rockstar developer Joseph J.M. Howell.

Howell worked on, among other things, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and Manhunt. He leaves behind him a wife and two children. He was 35 years old. No cause of death has been stated.

In part the obituary reads:

"Joseph enjoyed a successful career as creative associate for video game developer Rockstar Games, a division of Take Two Interactive. He was a staunch defender of Civil Rights and Liberties especially for the underprivileged.

"In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention www.afsp.org or the American Civil Liberties Union www.aclu.org."

SPOnG's sympathies go to his family. Let's hope that the anti-violent video games lobby can show equal respect.

Yeah RIP, I'm sure his work gave a lot of us a lot of enjoyment.

Sad to hear someone passing so young.

I hope that doesn't indicate that this was maybe a suicide...
Anyways, that's really unfortunate. I may not have a lot of respect for R*'s work, but something unfortunate as death is nothing to withhold respect from.
