Now that the company has finally broken its silence, we can dutifully report that a new SEGA Bass Fishing game is heading to Wii – scheduled for release sometime early 2008.
Forget (for one minute at least) Nintendo’s ‘Touch Generations’ hyperbole surrounding games such as Wii Sports, Wii Fit, WarioWare and even the forthcoming Guitar Hero III for Wii. SEGA Bass Fishing is going to help the Wii break two vitally important new markets - the elderly fisherman market and the lazy-stoners-who-like-the-idea-of-fishing-but-cannot-be-bothered-to-go-out-in-the-rain market.
For those who remember the glory that was SEGA Bass Fishing on the Dreamcast, you will remember handing the fishing rod controller to a non-gaming friend and then watching with glee as a big smile crept across their face when they caught their first ten-pounder.
So, control-wise, it really is a no-brainer to bring this game to Wii, with the rod being controlled by the Wii Remote and the reel being controlled by spinning the Nunchuck, while you play through four different game modes: Arcade, Tournament, Practice and Nature Trip.
SEGA Bass Fishing on Wii will feature four different lakes to fish, four type of freshwater bass to catch, 20 different baits, different seasons, day and night fishing and more.
