Crysis: Full System Requirements Revealed

Crytek gunning for the future

10 Oct 2007

Following a fair amount of speculation regarding just what the system requirements for Electronic Arts' upcoming shooter, Crysis, will be, the publisher has come clean.

Back when SPOnG had a chat with Alex Werner, designer of Crysis, he told us of the then-undisclosed system requirements, “We are still optimising the game, and any specifications we would give now will be obsolete later. But we can tell you that a gamer’s PC you would buy now will be enough to handle the game. Our motto for benchmarking always has been that we will benchmark against any great game on the same PC to stay cutting-edge.”

The message seems to have changed a mite, however, with Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crysis developer Crytek, putting emphasis on future PC capabilities. Yerli commented, “... while these specs affect how Crysis will perform now, we have also optimized Crysis so that the game scales forward 1-2 years --we want to make sure that Crysis' gameplay, visuals and performance improves as technology does."

That said, Yerli reckons Crytek has done a pretty good job of making Crysis accessible now. “Like putting the proverbial quart into a pint pot, scaling this back through optimization to our stated goal of rigs 2-3 years old has been a huge challenge, but we are very happy with the results so far and specific tweaks are still happening as I type”, he said. “Our recommended and minimum specs have been released today, so we hope this finally puts people at ease about what hardware they will need to get the most out of the game on November 16th."

Cast your eye over the full specs below and let us know what you think in the Forum.

I am rather surprised with the specs, because of my graphcis card being a 6600GT 128mb I fail the minimum specs.

However looking at the recommended specs they dont seem to be right, surely this game being the mighty graphical wonder it is supposed to be would need a much more powerful rig.

However I think both specs are for entry level folk who do not have high end rigs.

A TRUE recommended spec would be much higher of course.

Also not forgetting Windows Vista 32bit recommends 2gb of ram, I am running 64bit Premium and have 2gb - but 4gb is whats apparently recommended!

Before I went into console gaming I would have probably upgraded to play such a game but weighing the costs and pros and cons of PC gaming for me the right thing to do is forget PC gaming and concentrate on console gaming.

I agree SuperSaiyan4

It's weird that in the recommended specs they say XP is acceptible, when XP doesn't support DirectX 10. They look more like the medium specs.
