PES 2008 Problems: 'Solution' In The Works
Konami 'fesses up

13 Nov 2007
Konami has come clean and admitted to a number of problems with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. A number of solutions are offered, while the company tells us it is working on a solution for a number of problems with online gameplay.
The most wide-ranging problem across multiple formats, is with the online mode. Konami tells us, "We have uncovered issues which affect online gameplay quality of PES 2008. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience."
The PS3 version of the game in particular is highlighted by Konami. The game is proving susceptible to freezes, and PS3 owners are advised to avoid the auto-save feature if this is happening in the Master League mode, while those experiencing the problem elsewhere are advised against installing the game on the PS3's hard disc. Again, Konami advises it is "working hard to provide a solution for this issue as quickly as possible."
A few hiccups SPOnG can understand, but shouldn't problems of this scope have been picked up in quality assessment? If you've been looking to break into the games industry, SPOnG reckons you should keep an eye on Konami. There might be a few jobs going in QA soon...

Such a shame after PES has managed to do so well in comparison to FIFA.

Having played both demos I've got to say FIFA is better. Even if you ignore all the licensing which a lot of people see as an issue, FIFA is more realistic. The players actually slow down when charging for a shot, the don't run around like robots - PES really doesn't animate change of direction very well unless it's a complete 180 change of direction, and the pitch looks like someones been sick on it in PES. That said, the FIFA pitch only looks ok if you're a good distance away from it. The visuals are definitely better on FIFA overall though. Having not played Pro Evo before playing that demo I was expecting something very different to FIFA but still something very impressive but after everything I've heard people say I find it hard to believe people have accepted something that is well below par.
