Make sure to get the feather duster out before you send your PS3 to the Sony menders' shop when it breaks, because it looks like Sony is not going to repair filthy, dirty PS3s.
Here’s a pic of a recent Playstation 3 that Sony deemed too dusty to be repaired under warranty! (How it was actually allowed to get that filthy, we cannot imagine).
Apparently, Sony initially claimed that the dust presented a threat to their technician's health, and that the owner of this filthy, faulty console should pay them $150 for the honour of having it mended.
Sony originally claimed that the pictures would not be released without a subpoena, though soon changed tack once the story was picked up by consumerist.com, contacting the dirty, filthy gamer to tell him or her (most likely him):
Thank you for contacting us regarding our Warranty policy as it pertains to the condition of your PLAYSTATION 3 console.
After consultation with legal counsel, SCEA has determined that the photographs of your console as returned to our service center are neither confidential nor private. Consequently, we may lawfully release these photographs to you. Because the photographs are not confidential, we may also release them to media who inquire about your recent internet postings concerning the console.

Okay, some SPOnG staff have worked in technical support over the years. Some of us have had to deal with the CEO's son's girlfriend's brother's PC that was so encrusted in filth that the bloody thing simply died. Some of us can appreciate what Sony tech support means...

Working at Gamestation we always get peeps trying to trade in their filthy consoles! I cant believe idiots like folk out shed loads of money (or may be its a stolen console?) only to treat a console like that!...no wonder it broke down. At the end of the day if u treat ur console like that, u dont deserve to get fixed for free....(even if u did pay for ur console)

The fact that its now been revealed that he is an actor just reinforces my belief that this story is an organised smear campaign.

When the pictures of the PS3 surfaced it should have raised suspicions in everyone especially when you remember that its been proved that the guy lied about how old the console was, how he looked after it and where it came from. The fact that its now been revealed that he is an actor just reinforces my belief that this story is an organised smear campaign.
