Nintendo DS Has Record Breaking Week
Beats PSP for most sales in single week
Posted 27 Nov 2007

Chart-Track, which monitors games hardware and software sales, has revealed to SPOnG that the Nintendo DS has broken the record for greatest number of hardware units sold in a single week in the UK. It is units sold to consumers that we're talking about, rather than the 'shipped into retail' figures that are often bandied about - Chart-Track generates its figures by gathering figures directly from retailers.
A representative told SPOnG that, going by Chart-Track estimates:
The week in question is week 47 or, for those of us who don't speak 'Retail', the week ending November 24th.
Last week saw the release of Mario Party DS, which has no doubt helped. That said, the march towards Christmas coupled with that sub-£100 price point (and possibly Wii Shortages) is clearly making the handheld a popular present choice.
The news is certainly a coup for Nintendo, which has been suffering from limited supply of the Wii in the run-up to Christmas.
A representative told SPOnG that, going by Chart-Track estimates:
"The previous record holder for the biggest seller of hardware in a single week was the Sony PSP. It sold 188,000 units in week 35, 2005 - it's launch week. Last week, the DS Lite shifted 191,000 units."
