So, what's been happening to the former chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI) - the man we know as 'Father of PlayStation' - the man called Ken Kutaragi? Well, aside from possibly playing crazy golf with balls carrying photographs of 'new guy' Kaz Hirai, Ken's up for a lifetime award.

Yup, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) is putting FoPS (Father of PlayStation) up for one of those awards that most people (aside from Will Wright) get just before they die: its 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award.

In one of those masterly PR gaffs however, it appears that FOPS could be conceived of as some kind terrorist as we're told that AIAS, "Honors Industry Legend Responsible for Video Game Console Explosion"; nice.

Joseph Olin, president of AIAS is incredibly effusive about Ken, "If it wasn't for Ken and his concept of the original PlayStation, there wouldn't be the billion dollar industry there is today. His contributions have clearly set new standards for developers, publishers and consumers worldwide".

So, SEGA, Atari, Nintendo, Microsoft, SAM, BBC, Acorn, Commodore... without PlayStation, nada! Or at least we'd only have a tiny industry and we'd probably all still be playing Kick Off. Thoughts? To the Forum immediately!

Ken's due to pick up his gong or cup or plastic slab at this year's Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony on February 7 at Red Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in conjunction with the annual D.I.C.E. Summit 2008.

Well done Ken! Now get on with inventing some more good stuff! This is no time to sit on your laurels or cherry blossoms or whatever it is that you sit on.
