Nintendo of America (NOA) is boasting a record sales week for its products in the week leading up to November 24th.

The company's internal figures show that in that week, "Nintendo of America has sold more Nintendo products than at any other time in its history". Among the Nintendo products that have jumped off shelves are 653,000 DSes and 350,000 Wiis.

Nintendo also seems pretty chuffed about the DS having set "a new all-time sales record for Thanksgiving week" beating the 600,000 GBAs sold in the same period in 2005. Thanksgiving week, if you've never had a spending splurge in the US, is the first official week of the holiday shopping period over there.

For the Wii, this Thanksgiving week is its biggest since the console launched - which would have been a year ago. The Wii has reached the 5 million sales mark faster than any other console in the US, managing it in 12 months. Nintendo UK must be weeping at the thought of how good it would be to have that many Wiis to sell...

"As shoppers look for ways to maximize their limited holiday spending money, they turn to gifts that can be used by the entire family", said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's soon-to-be-departing senior VP of marketing and corporate communications. "Wii and Nintendo DS offer something for every member of the family. They're the most fun video game experiences at the most affordable price."

Sony also benefited from the Thanksgiving week, reportedly seeing a 245% increase in sales.

The DS also had a bumper week in the UK last week, with the handheld beating the record for most games systems sold in one week. It found its way into 191,000 new homes.

Nintendo also couldn't resist a sly jab at Sony and Microsoft, saying, “Both Wii and Nintendo DS have continued their year-long momentum into the holidays without altering their prices.”
