Call of Duty 4 Downloadable Content Coming Soon

Word has come from Activision that it plans to release new downloadable content for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
Activision tells us that the content will take the form of multi-player maps. What else does it tell us? "The upcoming downloadable content will thrust gamers into a hot zone of added combat across a variety of intense multiplayer locales." So, not a right lot then.
We did also get the obligatorily bland corporo-quote to pep us up, "We’ve demonstrated our commitment to delivering the best multiplayer experience in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and that continues with our plans for new downloadable content”, says Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert Bowling.
“We’re excited about the new maps, and the added gameplay variety, and we can’t wait to wrap things up and get online with everyone", he continues.
So, just when will it be wrapped up? "Spring" is what we're told.
While Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling says everyone at the developer is pretty excited about the content, he may not get the opportunity to work on Call of Duty 5. Rumour has it that, in spite of CoD4 being the best-selling title of 2007, the franchise might be getting passed back to CoD3 developer Treyarch.
Anyway, SPOnG's happy to see the content coming. SPOnG's military man, Cliff Caswell, rates CoD4 very highly and we're far too scared of him to not agree with his evaluation.

To Bentley,
I don't know what your talking about, i have no problems getting into rooms on COD4. You are right and wrong about one thing though. Yes, there were problems on Xbox live during the holidays, but that was not Infinty Wards (IW) fault, it was microsoft. I have added a link to a letter from Xbox LIVE General Manager Marc Whitten about the holiday problems. Yes people who are wanting to sue IW are idiots. About these new maps though, GREAT! me and my mates have been waiting for word of downloadable content coming. Whats the problem with paying, we were given a free XBLA game from microsoft for compensation over the XBL issues. If there were/are any problems with getting into lobbies on PS3's COD4 thats probably because there arent as many people on PS3's at the moment. (because Sony has discontinued the 60GB model, less people want to buy the 40GB because its terrible compared to the 60GB)
Thank for Reading!

So the continued upturn in sales of the PS3 in every market worldwide after the launch of the 40GB model is just ... what? A coincidence or false reporting by every stats company that covers the games market?

Personally, I'd be loathe to pay out for a game I'm not sure I want to play online. Don't get me wrong; the online play IS fantastic once you get into a room. Best I've played, in terms of the smoothness, and the fun, and the lack of lag and problems (although lacking that old SOCOM community feel). But I want to play online with friends (and preferably UK based players) and not randoms and foreigners (due to distance/lag issues and language barriers, NOT racism!)... one night over Christmas I tried to join a room with friends over and over and over, without success, for 3 hours! I stopped playing the game online at all after that, because it was not the first time it had happened. A patch was promised but is yet to materialise. And many, many more feel similar (and worse) than I. Personally, I just do something else, play something else or go for a pint or a fag, but the IW forums are full of people threatening to sue IW and Activision because of it! Idiots, but given how deep the feelings run, this content should really be issued as an apology and compensation to a community who want to love the online play of this title, but have been obstructed by issues that really should have been sorted before release. And that way we can all play the new maps together, too.
