Virtual Console Gives Us a Thunderous Friday

More classic side-scrolling in sight

8 Feb 2008

If you hadn't noticed, it's Friday. If you've looked at a videogames website at any point in the last year you've probably noticed that that means it's time for a Virtual Console release for the Wii. This week is no exception and Lords of Thunder is stepping up.

Lords of Thunder was first released on the Turbographx back in 1993. Side-scrolling and shooting things was what it was all about. Players took on the role of one of four warriors: Earth, Fire, Water or Wind to fight (you'll never guess) nasty monsters and great big bosses! As they go, players have to pick up crystals to spend on new weapons and armour so they can kill things and not die. Nintendo also tells us it has “an excellent soundtrack”. You can have the whole lot, soundtrack and all, for 800 Wii Points.

This week's release bumps Virtual Console's total catalogue up to 187 titles.

I really do wish Nintendo would release more than one Virtual Console title a week, though. There's loads of great games they haven't covered yet, and I'm not spending my cash or -- low be it spoken -- Wii Points earned with Stars until the right games crop up.

I'm personally holding out for Unirally (SNES). Anyone else got a slightly-obscure game they'd like to see?
