Sony Online Entertainment Moves from Sony Pictures - Joins Hirai
We've already reported today that Sony Pictures has bought an interactive TV company in Holland. We related this to CEO Howard Stringer's plan to closely integrate all Sony operations - with PlayStation Store and Sony' HOME social environment as keys to linking all sides.

Well, our reporting has just been further supported with the news that Sony Online Entertainment (Everquest among others) is to leave its former parent, Sony Pictures, and move over to Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI).

According to the official information:

"In a strategic move to closely align itself with the strong growth of the worldwide online gaming market, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will report to Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCEI, effective April 1, 2008.

"The new structure is designed to mutually benefit both companies by further accelerating the PlayStation business through SOE’s strong online gaming expertise.

"Under the new structure, SOE will continue to develop its games for the PC and the PS3 and SOE President John Smedley will report to Hirai."

Says Kaz, "I am excited to be able to work with SOE even more closely, as online games and services become a more integral part of the PS3 entertainment experience.

“This new structure will allow us to take full advantage of the extensive breadth of expertise of the two companies and increase our range of exciting entertainment offerings to our consumers.”

Yes, that's right... with Sony CEO Howard Stringer's promise of a announcement regarding PS3 and the PlayStation Network due this month, and now this news, all those ducks are lining up for some big PlayStation news.
