Four Terabytes Storage for Wii and PS3

Now that's what we call multi-media

Four Terabytes Storage for Wii and PS3
EMC is one of those vast companies that supplies digital storage to organisations like, for example, large US intelligence agencies. So, why has it decided to pitch its latest, 4Tb product at Wii and PS3 owners? There must be cash to be made, that's why.

The company's StorageCredenza array - which was developed, and has been launched, in China - can, "...hold four 3.5-inch SATA drives with a capacity up to 4T bytes." This. according to EMC, "..is enough to hold 1,500 DVD-quality movies or 600,000 high-quality audio files" - and it's aimed at "PCs as well as game consoles".

It also comes complete with eSATA, Ethernet, and USB 2.0 ports. A 4x250Gb unit (yes, only 1Tb) is priced in China at the equivalent to £645, which to SPOnG means a pretty well-to-do consumer. So, here's the pitch, "Users manage the StorageCredenza with a Web browser, allowing the device to be used with PCs as well as game consoles equipped with such a capability, including the Nintendo Wii, Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles... other features include a media server that supports iTunes, a search function, and support for direct picture transfers with cameras that support the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP)".

It's now official then, your games console is a full-blown multi-media hub for which you will be pleased to fork out more than its own value for storage. Gaming, eh? It's for kids.

Although that kind of space is not needed this gen or even next gen hopefully next gen hard drives in both the next Xbox and Playstation will be a lot more than what it is now and better priced - in the 360.

You don't even make sense, SuperSaiyan4. You started off well but seemed to just want to slip your favourite word "360" in there, despite the fact that there was no reason to and it threw the "sentence" off kilter. In fact there's not much reason, logic or point to many of your posts. I have to admit, I was hoping you'd disappeared. Learn some grammar and your posts may be less irritating. They will probably teach you that when you get to "big school".

I fully admit that there's not much point to this post either. Although I will say I'd love 4TB of storage space, and it would be great this gen, next gen or that gen. It would be amazing to never have to worry about running out of room. Imagine, an endless supply of grumble. Imagine also, your girlfriend discovering you have 4TB of porn. At least on one device it would be easier to hide from her.

I have to admit, I don't come to SPOnG quite so much these days as I am sick and tired of SS4. But when I do come, I tend to read all the articles I've missed anyway. It's a great site, but tarnished by the presence of a total idiot fanbaby nonsense-spewing imbecile. Although she's not as bad as she used to be, it must be said; but she's still the one thing that stops me clicking on my "SPOnG" link in my bookmarks more often.

I think you all missed what I was trying to say - better priced in the 360 was me meaning hopefully they make the hard drives better priced for the 360 as currently a 20gb is like £70 and 120gb £120-£130 see what I am trying to say?

Perhaps my wording was a bit off but was talking about the rip off prices of the hard drives for the Xbox 360 and hopefully next gen if Microsoft opt for the same again they will have larger hard drives at better prices.

Sorry for upsetting you guys.

I don't see the need to be so sensitive about it. Presumably you come to read the news, primarily, not the comments? Also, the idea of the comments section, I would have thought, is so that you can post your own views for people to see - not specifically to change everybody else's views - and you are not forced to agree with anyone else's views. With the comments section comes the inherent idea that some comments you disagree with, some comments you won't like, and some people you won't like. But that's life - and it would be (more) boring otherwise.

Well, I love reading what other people say. It's when you have to decipher what they are saying first that gets me down. It makes me lose all faith in humanity. On a more basic level, it makes it hard to understand the point that someone is trying to get across. It might be the most valid, life-changing point in the world, but if it's ill-written and needs translating, then the point may be lost and the world may never be the better place it could have been.

I have to say I admire SuperSaiyan4 for trying to make it clearer. See, I believe if you live and let live, then nobody will learn from their mistakes. But if heavy criticism is taken the right way- e.g. "I am going to show these bastards they are WRONG about me!" - then it may mean that one matures and grows in a positive direction in the face of arrogant negativity.

I for one know that I can be a picky bastard, but I don't mean no harm really guv'nor. I just like to dish out a bit of tough love from time to time. SS4 is definitely maturing in attitude and commentary; all we need to do now is teach him/her how to do grammar right and the world will be an idyllic utopia. I believe that it's possible that SS4 may even rise to be President of such a utopia. Stranger things have happened...
