Car Smash-Ups Coming to GT5 Prologue
Vehicle damage coming via download

4 Apr 2008
It's been a long time coming, but it has finally been confirmed that vehicle deformation is coming to the Gran Turismo series.
Speaking in an interview, developer Polyphony's president and creator of GT, Kazunori Yamauchi, said of cars taking damage in GT5 Prologue, "maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it". He then reportedly went on to confirm that damage deformation will come as a download for the game.
It has been a long-running gripe for some, SPOnG included, that the Gran Turismo series has not featured vehicle damage. While previous versions, such as GT2, have had dalliances with performance degradation, outwardly the vehicles have remained untainted due to licensing agreements with car manufacturers.
GT5 Prologue launched in Europe last week, although the downloadable version was subject to technical difficulties and did not appear on the PlayStation Store until a day after it was scheduled.
