Japanese Hardware for the Entire Year
But PSP leads the last month
Posted 4 Apr 2008

With the Japanese hardware sales figures for March in, Japanese publisher Enterbrain has been able to deliver numbers for the full Japanese financial year. Unsurprisingly, the DS led the way with 6,343,547 units sold in total. The Wii was next in line, with 3,741,946 units sold. Behind it was the PSP at 3,427,971 units, with its cousin the PS3 at 1,197,418 units. As you'd expect, the 360 was at the back with 235,318 units - less than the Wii sold in just March 2008.
The numbers are for March 26, 2007 through to March 30, 2008.
Nintendo also ruled the roost with software sales in Japan. You can see as much in the Top 5 games in Japan for the last financial year below.
As for the figures for March 2008, they show that the PSP has outsold the DS in the territory for the first time in the last six months.
Sony sold 415,415 PSPs in the five weeks leading to March 30th, compared to the 255,124 DSs sold by Nintendo.
Leading the way overall was the Wii, which outsold the PS3 (deep breath) by three to one. 265,542 Wiis were sold, with Sony selling 81,579 PS3s. The Xbox 360 sat at the bottom of the pile with 13,127 units shifted.
1. Wii Fit - Nintendo - 1,762,193
2. Mario Party DS - Nintendo - 1,659,315
3. Wii Sports - Nintendo - 1,616,377
4. Super Smash Bros Brawl - Nintendo - 1,554,852
5. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Nintendo - 1,354,447
Notable, you will have... erm... noticed is the lack of figures for PS2. We are digging.
