Microsoft Prods the Corpse of HD-DVD
New firmware update available now

9 Apr 2008
HD-DVD might have reached the early stages of rigor mortis, but that hasn't stopped Microsoft poking at the format's corpse with a stick. A new firmware update has been released for gamers using their Xbox 360 and HD-DVD peripheral.
Over on his blog, Microsoft's online mascot, Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb tells us:
"If you have an Xbox 360 HD DVD player, you’ll be prompted for an auto update the next time you watch an HD DVD movie (and your are signed into Xbox Live.)
"This update includes:
* Compatibility improvements with certain titles
* Additional support for network features"

SPOnG, for one, hopes the update will turn our HD-DVD peripheral into a Blu-ray player.

apparently it sets of the lesser known internal speaker of the HD-DVD drive to a continious sound demo looping with laughing, this continues for around 360 hours at which point the HD-DVD drive transforms and starts its quest to find Micheal Bay and kick him in the shin.
