SEGA Master System Breaks onto Nintendo Virtual Console
This week's latest downloadable Wii content detailed
Posted 11 Apr 2008

This week marks the first appearance of titles from the SEGA Master System on Nintendo's Virtual Console Service for the Wii.
To older SPOnG staffers this combination of SEGA and Nintendo remains a sign of hope in a world of conflict. It's like West Ham fans aligning themselves with Millwall supporters; it's like Spider-Man and the first Green Goblin joining forces; it's... well, it's moving and warm. Let's move on, quickly...
First up is Wonder Boy, which first hit SEGA's 8-bit console over 20 years ago in 1987. This side-scrolling platformer sees players take on the role of Tom-Tom as he tries to rescue his lady love, Tanya, from an evil king. It can be all yours for 500 Wii Points.
Next from the Master System's catalogue we have Fantasy Zone, similarly from the long-gone days of 1987. This shooter (labelled “bizarre”, “surreal” and “wacky” by 'Tendy) sees players take control of a spaceship dubbed Opa Opa as they blast through space to take on throngs of baddies and collect coins to further upgrade Opa Opa's capabilities. You can get it for 500 of your Wii Points.
Also on Virtual Console this week are a couple of additions from the Commodore 64. We've got Impossible Mission, first released back in 1984, for one. The game mixes action and puzzle-solving as players make their way into the stronghold of Elvin Atombender to scupper his plans to... destroy the world! Secret codes! Robots! Armageddon! All for 500 Wii Points!
We've also got California Games nine hundred and eighty seventh year of the last millennium. Taking us out for an early spot of sun, the game features events including surfing, skateboarding, BMX biking and roller skating. It's all very 'extreme'. California Games also weighs in at 500 Wii Points.
This week's offering brings Virtual Console total up to 205 games.
Don't forget, the Wii also just got BBC iPlayer compatibility. You can find more on that here.

1) Don't ever stop being pedantic.
2) My brain is quite spectacularly in neutral for some unfathomable reason.
3) Oh, I know, I've got to go to Hampshire this weekend and be near Portsmouth fans.
4) Finally, thanks for the input.
Cheers
Tim
PS: I think you meant to uppercase 'I' in "I think I know which one you will choose!"
PPS: House style is to use a comma separator in thousands.
PPPS: Phew, that feels betterererer...erer.

Yeh, none o' that anti-pedantry talk, roight? I reckon we don' take to that 'round 'ere, do we? Technically correct is the best kind of correct, innit?

Ah, you've found the reason for my lack of appearance round these parts! (the last few weeks were consumed by Uridium I fear) ;)
All we need is the Commodore Amiga now.
