Nintendo: No Wii or DS Price Cuts This Year
Company president says it doesn't need them

Nintendo has said that it has no plans to cut the price of the Wii or DS this year.
Speaking to analysts, the company's President, Satoru Iwata, said, "Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them".
The earnings projection in question is partly based on Nintendo's expectation that it will double it's total Wii hardware sales, shipping 25 million units over the next fiscal year. The company was more modest in its forecast for the DS, anticipating shipment of 28 million handhelds - lower sales than it saw last year.
Of course, Iwata's comments don't add up to a categorical denial that a price cut will happen this year. The fact that Nintendo's projections don't factor a cut in, however, certainly suggests that it has no plans at this time. Wait, did we actually just say that on a hardware company's behalf? We're just off to go apply for a job at Nintendo...

The prices of both the Wii and DS Lite have remained consistent since their launches. Sony and Microsoft, meanwhile, have both cut prices of their next-gen consoles, with Sony having also brought down the price of the PSP.
