What do they have to do with Lost?

8 May 2008

Following its PlayStation Day 2008 event, Sony has unleashed a barrage of screens and artwork from MotorStorm 2 - or MotorStorm Pacific Rift as it's now being called.

Rumour and speculation circulating the SPOnG underwater castle suggests that the first MotorStorm game was the result of someone from Evolution Studios going on holiday to Monument Valley and having a really nice time. Rumour and speculation further suggests (we think it comes from the same source, but we haven't been able to pinpoint it) that someone at Evolution has been having a really nice time watching Lost and that's how the sequel came about. SPOnG hopes someone from Evolution has one of those space holidays soon. So far, no one at Evolution or Sony has commented on the rumour and speculation.

In any case, we're told that some lucky members of the dev team got to visit Hawaii for 'research'.

The new game is set on an island which, according to Evolution's Paul Hollywood, "has all the best bits" of Hawaii but "no Hula and definitely no Elvis". The game will feature 16 tracks (compared to its predecessor's eight); 'Interactive Vegetation Technology'; new water physics (the water also cools engines!); 16-player online, four-player split screen and is "ultra aggressive".

From the looks of the demo screens at PlayStation Day, MotorStorm Pacific Rift is well worth waiting for.
