PS3 Update Won't Patch GTA IV

Firmware update to address stability issues

15 May 2008

Sony has confirmed that a new firmware update for the PS3 will not deal with any GTA IV problems gamers are experiencing.

A posting by Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network Operations on the PlayStation Blog tells us, "I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.35) will be released shortly. This is a relatively minor update to improve stability of some PS3 titles."

It didn't take long for it to be posited in the forums that the update was GTA IV-related. All of 11 minutes later, Al De Leon, a PR Manager for Sony Computer Entertainment America, jumped in to say, "I just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue."

So that's good news! It might be nice to know what the solution is and what games the update does, in fact, relate to, but you can't have it all...

I can exclusively reveal the solution here:

1) Turn PS3 off
2) Go outside

Maybe we finally get to play our SD DVDs from any region code so can actually use the upscaling feature of the PS3?

No? Oh well, further Sony/PS3 purchases are still banned in my house then!
